Past Mirea Releases Soft Static with Seven More Songs, Eleven Months After Runway Lights
The Virtual Queer K-Pop Project Returns with Its First Mini-Album, Forward Pivots Along
Past Mirea released Soft Static on 1 October 2026, alongside seven more songs that make up the virtual K-pop project’s first mini-album, Forward Pivots Along. It is the group’s first new music since December 2025, and it opens a second chapter for a project that started at speed.
Past Mirea’s Soft Static is in the playlist below, and the group’s coverage is collected on the Past Mirea profile. The single reached MusicDrops.News through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news titles. Press play, then read on for how the project got here.

Past Mirea Put Out Fourteen Singles and a Fourteen-Track Debut Album in Under Two Months in 2025
The start was fast. Runway Lights came first, in autumn 2025. Then eight singles arrived on a single day in November: Crown of Fire, Electric Heart, Chrome Halos, Paper Wings, Velvet Voltage, I Still Feel, Neon Flashback and Starlight Mirror.
After that, December brought the debut album, Light Carried Forward, with 14 tracks. Five more singles came with it: Run Faster, Me 2 You, The Look We Shared, Born Inside the Storm and Glow Riot.
Music videos followed into 2026. Born Inside the Storm arrived in January, with Glow Riot and Run Faster scheduled for February and March. In addition, the group’s own notes describe the debut as a run from heartbreak towards self-discovery and pride, told as stories of first love and friendship.
Through all of it, Paper Wings kept a special place. The group calls it its first K-pop single, the song where the story begins.

Mirea Music Built Past Mirea in San Francisco as an Open Experiment
The speed makes more sense once the method is clear. Mirea Music, a project based in San Francisco, builds the group with generative tools. The songs, the voices and the images are all made under human direction, and all of it is disclosed. Even the copyright lines tell the story: Runway Lights carried Mirea Music’s name, and the singles after it carry the group’s own.
Behind it, however, sits a simple question. Can fans connect with artists who do not physically exist? On Instagram, the group answers in character, describing itself as the first all-queer Korean-American pop girl group, with four members: Jesse, Lexi, Cori and Anna.

Soft Static Arrives With Seven Companion Songs as Past Mirea Opens a Second Chapter
Soft Static runs 3:31. It came out on the same day as But I’m Not, Hairography, Watermelon Berry, Dead Man’s Switch, Desire Unrequited, First Date Fever and Crash Landing. The group lists all eight as its first mini-album, out now.
The Spotify credits name Rynelle Alara as the song’s lyricist, songwriter and composer. Meanwhile, Rynelle Alara is credited as producer and as recording, mixing and mastering engineer. The vocals and backing vocals are credited to Past Mirea, the project’s generated voices.
As a result, it is a polished, glossy pop record by design, built to sit inside a contemporary pop playlist rather than outside it.
What comes next is already in motion. In July 2026 the group said it had started recording a second album, and a Hairography music video now heads its website.
From the MusicDrops.News curator team: “Soft Static sits fifth in our Pop, Alt-Pop, Dance Pop playlist, straight after ZUZY’s Up To Me and Benson Boone’s Beautiful Things. It is the track we would play to anyone curious whether a fully generated pop group can hold a place next to Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter.”
Gorillaz and Hatsune Miku Show Where Soft Static Puts Past Mirea Among Virtual Acts
Two earlier projects help place Past Mirea for listeners new to it.
Gorillaz set the template in 1998. Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett built a band of four fictional members, with Albarn as the only permanent musical contributor. Past Mirea also puts four characters at the front, with a credited writer and producer behind them.
Hatsune Miku answered Past Mirea’s question years ago. Crypton Future Media released the Vocaloid voicebank in August 2007, built from samples of the voice actress Saki Fujita. Since then, Miku has performed live virtual concerts as an animated projection, so fandom for a voice without a body already has a long track record.
