A Short St. Louis Rap Single, 24 Years After Kayos Co-Founded an Independent Entertainment Company

Kayos released Band Down on 26 April 2024, a 2:20 St. Louis rap single with no guest on it. It suits hip-hop fans who like a short, unhurried track. It also sits in the middle of a career that started long before streaming.

Kayos is in the playlist below with this single, and every write-up so far is listed on the Kayos artist profile. Band Down came to this desk through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news desks. Press play, then keep reading for the twenty-four years behind it.

The story begins in St. Louis. Arnold Williams Jr., the artist behind Kayos, enlisted in the US Army straight after University City High School. Then, in 2000, Kayos co-founded the independent entertainment company Big Focus Inc. with lifelong friend Bobbie S. Jones. Underground singles such as I Know They Mad and St.Louie Love came out under that name, made with fellow artist Hitch.

In 2014 Kayos made the top-50 emcee cut of the Jack’N For Beats St. Louis competition, sponsored by Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey. However, the streaming catalogue starts later. What Happened to Love with Jzanell arrived in April 2022, and Relate, again with Jzanell, followed in April 2023. Then Uh-Huh Reloaded in September 2023 brought Hitch back onto a Kayos record, alongside J-Roc.

All of it now comes out through Kayos Entertainment, LLC, the artist’s own company in St. Louis. The company also runs a photography service for weddings, modelling portfolios and scenery. Meanwhile, Kayos hosts the KE-VISION vodcast on YouTube.

Band Down Gives Kayos Two Minutes and Twenty Seconds Over a Young D Of Trap Team Beat

The credits are short. Arnold Williams Jr. wrote the song, and Young D Of Trap Team produced it. On Spotify it came out as a one-track single, with nothing else attached. As a result, Band Down is one of only three solo tracks among the ten on the popular list of the Kayos page, and the shortest of the ten.

The track opens on soft synths and a rolling beat. Kayos raps in an easy, conversational way, staying inside the rhythm rather than racing it. Meanwhile, the hook comes round before the song has time to wander. At 2:20, nothing outstays its welcome.

That relaxed delivery has a long history in rap. Snoop Dogg made his name on Doggystyle in 1993 with a drawl that rode the beat as much as the words did. Band Down works from the same idea at a smaller scale: the calm is the point.

St. Louis also has its own landmark. Nelly released Country Grammar in 2000, the same year Big Focus began. That debut cemented the city’s sound in national hip-hop, carried by singles such as Ride wit Me. Kayos comes from the same city and has released everything independently.

Good Music Radar reviewed the single on 18 July 2024, almost three months after release. Songscope and TJPL News covered it too.

After Band Down, Kayos Turned to Guests Again and Released Five Singles in January 2026

The next step brought company back. Ballcap with King Jacob arrived on 18 October 2024, six months after Band Down. Then Life Love Pain followed on 14 March 2025. At 3:29, that solo track runs longest on the popular list, so it sits at the other end from Band Down.

After that, January 2026 turned into a release schedule. All I Know with Ant Da Dragon came out on 2 January, Side Strong with Peter Anguria on 9 January and End of Time on 16 January. Highly Addictive with 713lrich followed on 23 January, and Holding Me Up with Tickle Belly Hill closed the month on 28 January.

That is five singles in four weeks, and four of them have a guest. Four of the five also landed on a Friday, so each one had a week of its own.

From the MusicDrops.News Curator Team: “Band Down is the track we would hand to someone new to Kayos. It is the clearest look at the rapper alone on a beat, and it makes its case in under two and a half minutes.”

Start with Band Down, then play End of Time to hear Kayos alone on a track again, almost two years later. Playlist builders will also like the short running time, because it slots between longer tracks without slowing a set down.

Stream Band Down on Spotify. Then follow Kayos on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Tidal and SoundCloud. Watch the YouTube channel, and keep up on Instagram, X and Facebook. Find every link on Linktree, with more on Amazing Radio US and the Kayos Entertainment site.
