An Indiana Bedroom Artist Slows Down and Brings in an Engineer for the First Time

JAKE JUNE released PRETTYLONER on 2 October, an indie pop single from an artist who records in a bedroom in Indiana. It is the first slow song in the catalogue, and the first with an outside engineer on the mix. Eight days later it became the second track on CRUSH, the debut EP.

JAKE JUNE’s music is in the playlist below, filed with the pop and alt-pop records on this desk, and each of our articles on JAKE JUNE is listed on the JAKE JUNE artist profile. PRETTYLONER came to MusicDrops.News through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news titles. Have a listen, then keep reading for the EP and the next live date.

Before PRETTYLONER, JAKE JUNE Put Out Six Singles in Five Months From an Indiana Bedroom

JAKE JUNE describes the project in plain terms: a small artist from Indiana, making indie music in a bedroom and sharing it one song at a time. The first single, NEVER AGAIN, arrived on 1 May 2026. TONIGHT followed at the end of May, then ALL DUE RESPECT in June, AFTERPARTY and GROW UP in July, and FOR YOU on 10 September.

In other words, that is six singles in a little over four months, every one of them released independently. June has said at least one of those songs was made in the bedroom on an iPhone. The project has its own imprint too, and PRETTYLONER came out on JUST JUNE.

Meanwhile, the live side started over the summer. June posted a full set filmed at The Forge in Joliet, Illinois, in June. After the second show came a note thanking the first fans who had ever come out to hear the songs in person.

Making records on a phone has a famous precedent. Steve Lacy made much of his 2017 debut, Steve Lacy’s Demo, on an iPhone, and five years later Bad Habit topped the Billboard Hot 100. Lacy is a name June keeps returning to.

PRETTYLONER Is the First Slow Song From JAKE JUNE and the First With an Outside Engineer

PRETTYLONER runs to 2:58. June calls it the first slow song of the catalogue, which makes it a change of pace after six singles. It is a wistful kind of indie pop, and June teased it online with a line addressed to a miss pretty loner, so the title reads as a person rather than a mood.

The credits are short and specific. June wrote the lyric and sings it. Nguyen Xuan Dieu composed and produced the track and made the beat. Logan Bleu mixed and mastered it, and June has said it was the first time an engineer had worked on the music.

The single also moves the catalogue sideways. The streaming services filed the earlier singles as rock or pop, swinging between the two from one release to the next. PRETTYLONER is the first they list as alternative, which fits a project that has never settled on one lane.

As for the audience, listeners in the US, the UK and Canada who look for new independent artists early are the natural fit. Anyone who likes slower indie pop should give it a first listen.

After PRETTYLONER Came CRUSH, the Debut EP, and Next JAKE JUNE Plays a First Opening Slot

CRUSH arrived on 10 October, eight days after PRETTYLONER. It runs to eight tracks and opens with a short poem as its intro, with PRETTYLONER second. FOR YOU, which June called the official start of the rollout, and AFTERPARTY are on it too. The new songs are STOLEN GLANCES, STAY and IN LOVE, plus a bonus track, FEELINGS.

After all, a debut EP gathered from singles has worked before. Dominic Fike released his first EP in 2018 under the title Don’t Forget About Me, Demos, and it led to a major-label deal the same year. CRUSH is the first time the JAKE JUNE songs sit together in one place.

Kasper Kraus shot the photographs for FOR YOU and for the EP. After that, the next date is a live one. On 12 December June plays a first ever opening slot, at Soberay365 in the Cleveland area, with doors at 7pm.

From the MusicDrops.News curator team: “Seven singles in five months can blur together on a new releases desk. PRETTYLONER is the one that slowed us down, and it is the first we would hand to someone hearing JAKE JUNE for the first time.”
