Before the Guitars, Xtra $avage Spent Two Years Making Hip-Hop Singles in Kansas City

The catalogue started as hip-hop, and it started loose. biggie momma., out in June 2024, began as a joke that turned into a real release. Ball Out followed in October. A local school basketball team had asked for a song to play on the court.

No Hooks Allowed arrived in November and runs to 80 seconds, all verses and no chorus. In December he produced Flag On The Play for the Louisiana rapper Big Camz. On New Year’s Day 2025 came The One With the BOYS, a five-and-a-half-minute posse cut. It was made for fun before one of the group moved away. Lil Foxxxx, Elias the Giant, biggie momma. and kkillamcmoney all appear on it.

Nineteen months of silence followed. 2.0 ended it in August 2026 with dark hip-hop production, live guitar and Rhodes. The song looks back on time away from rap. It opens deliberately weary and closes on a long guitar outro that points at what came next. Both 2026 singles carry the Seventh Gate Music name, and I Know You’re There went out through DistroKid.

On I Know You’re There, Xtra $avage Plays Every Part and Keeps Faith When God Feels Distant

I Know You’re There is filed as hard rock on his own site, and the description fits. Distorted guitars set the tone and the arrangement stays dark. Over it, the singing holds its tune while it roughens at the edges.

The model was 90s grunge at its plainest: simple arrangements, with the guitars at the front of the production. He did not copy the era, though. He came at it as a multi-instrumentalist, producer and hip-hop artist.

The Spotify credits read like a one-man band. Xtra $avage is down for drums, electric bass, acoustic and electric guitar, lead vocal and backing vocals. He produced the track as well. His own bio lists live guitars, bass, drums, piano and electronic production as one toolkit. So the move to rock needed no hired band. Nothing on the record passed through another pair of hands.

Where I Know You’re There Sits Between Alice in Chains’ Harmonies and Creed’s Questions of Faith

That vocal credit matters more than it looks. Alice in Chains formed in Seattle in 1987 and built their sound on two voices. In Alice in Chains, Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell harmonised over heavy guitars, often a major third apart. Dirt, their 1992 album with Would? and Rooster, took that sound to a mass audience. On this single one singer covers both jobs, lead and backing, over guitars he also played.

The subject is faith when God feels far away. In his own description, the song is about knowing God is present without feeling it. It is about choosing to trust anyway, even when every emotion argues the other way. The title is the assurance the song keeps reaching for, four words aimed at a presence that stays quiet.

Creed worked similar ground at the end of the 90s. Scott Stapp, the stepson of a Pentecostal minister, wrote about questioning and struggling with faith on Creed’s My Own Prison in 1997. He still insisted the band was not a Christian band. I Know You’re There sits in that line of heavy rock that wrestles with belief instead of preaching it.

What Comes Next for Xtra $avage After I Know You’re There, the First Single From Whatever This Is

I Know You’re There is the first single from his upcoming project, Whatever This Is. The project has no release date yet. His site calls 2.0 the start of a new chapter, and this single takes it further.

The single suits fans of Alice in Chains and Creed who still want heavy guitars with a melody on top. It also suits anyone who follows an independent artist across genres. Xtra $avage treats genre as a tool rather than a fence.

From the MusicDrops.News curator team: “A faith song that settles everything by its final chorus is easy to write. I Know You’re There refuses the easy answer and leaves its question open. That honesty is why we keep going back to it.”

I Know You’re There is out now on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube Music. Follow Xtra $avage on Spotify, Apple Music, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and his YouTube channel, or visit his official site.
